Schema Therapy

Schema therapy is an integrative type of therapy that aims to change negative patterns or beliefs. Such schemas or patterns of thoughts can include fear abandonment, lack of identity, vulnerability and pessimism. These are more deeply held than a persons core beliefs and have more impact on an individuals identity.

Such thoughts and beliefs can be reinforced constantly, and the aim of schema therapy is to break these patterns and replace them with healthier alternatives. Schema therapy is particularly beneficial for those who believe that the origin of their issues comes from their past/early life.

It is considered a long-term intervention, meaning that you can choose to have sessions for as long as you feel the need to. The time it takes and what you and the therapist focus on during sessions is entirely dependent on your individual needs.
