Dr Rozina Anwar

Counselling Psychologist in East Dulwich, MSc, BSc (Hons)
Headshot Rozina Anwar

I am a Counselling Psychologist (awaiting HCPC registration) – registered with the British Psychological Society. I have worked in NHS mental health services for five years. My training has equipped me with a broad range of therapeutic modalities and I draw on ideas from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic, humanistic, schema therapy and DBT. I am adept in taking a culturally sensitive approach in this context. Where necessary, I seek to work integratively, utilising evidence based modalities. With this in mind, I value establishing and maintaining a strong therapeutic alliance with my clients.

My background in teaching enables me to draw upon evidence based interventions to guide me during practice. For example, during lectures I often relay the theory behind practice on any given presentation and so I seek to bring this into the therapy room so as to ensure I bridge the research-practice gap. Recently, I lectured on attachment styles in relationships and the knowledge base gained on delivering these lectures from a theoretical stance, has given me solid grounding to relay this knowledge to clients in the framework of their lived experiences.

Given we are multifaceted beings, coloured by family, culture and history, I adopt a relational approach and endeavour to understand my clients within the context of their past and present situation.

Clinically, I have a keen interest in perinatal mental health, complex trauma and attachment related issues. My research interests lie in psycholinguistics, psycho-social issues, attachment, culture and identity. I am also clinically experienced working with young people aged 15 upwards. I have experience of working with the following presentations: Academic Performance, Adult Survivors of Sexual Abuse, Anxiety & Phobias, Bullying, Carer Support, Couples Therapy, Cross-cultural, Depression, Divorce / Separation, Domestic Violence, Eating Disorders, Grief and Loss, Health-related Problems, Infertility Issues, Migration, OCD, Panic Disorder, Parenting, Perinatal mental health, Psycho-oncology , PTSD, Race / Gender / Sexuality, Relationships, Religious Issues, School Issues, Sexual Difficulties, Stress Management, Victim of Crime, Women’s health and Work Stress.

I see clients in my consulting rooms in East Dulwich as well as online.
