Postnatal Anxiety

Becoming a parent brings huge changes – physically, emotionally, and mentally. It’s completely natural to worry about your baby, especially in the early days. But if those worries start to feel constant, overwhelming, or interfere with your ability to rest, connect, or enjoy moments with your baby, you may be experiencing postnatal anxiety.

At Circle Psychology Partners, we offer a safe and compassionate space for parents struggling with anxiety after birth. We understand how hard it can be to open up when you feel like you’re “supposed” to be coping, and we’re here to support you without judgement.

Postnatal anxiety can include:

  • Constant worry about your baby’s health, feeding, weight or sleep

  • Anxiety around breastfeeding or bottle feeding

  • Fear of others caring for or holding your baby

  • Feeling unable to relax or “switch off”

  • Panic attacks or physical symptoms (racing heart, nausea, shaking)

  • Intrusive or frightening thoughts about harm coming to your baby (including OCD-type thoughts or compulsions)

These experiences can feel terrifying – but they are more common than people realise, and they do not make you a “bad” parent. Some people with postnatal anxiety experience obsessive thoughts or mental images they find deeply distressing. This is often linked to perinatal OCD, a treatable condition rooted in fear and heightened responsibility – not intent.

We use evidence-based approaches, including compassion-focused therapy (CFT), cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), and mindfulness strategies, to help you manage anxiety, make sense of your experiences, and begin to feel more grounded and confident.

Whether you’re a first-time parent or not, and whether your baby is weeks or months old, it’s never too late to reach out. You deserve to feel supported, safe, and understood.

Our qualified team of therapists are dedicated and ready to help you overcome your anger. Feel free to book an initial consultation today to start your therapy journey.
