Online MBCT Group

Online Mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) GROUP

The Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) programme is designed to help us navigate the impact of depressive mood states. Research has shown the effectiveness of the programme in preventing depressive relapse and treating other psychological conditions such as anxiety and stress- related conditions. MBCT is included in the NHS NICE guidelines for treatment of depression.

Through the programme, we will cultivate a gentle and compassionate curiosity to our moment-moment experience. This group provides a supportive space with others who can relate.

How MBCT can help

Through MBCT we can learn to reduce the impact of worry and rumination, which can increase our mental wellbeing. MBCT can help by strengthening our ability:

(1) to notice when we are caught up in unhelpful thoughts;
(2) to let these thoughts go and bring our attention back to the present moment; and
(3) to relate to ourselves and our experience with greater gentleness and kindness.

At the end of the course, participants will feel better equipped to cope with life challenges, using the tools, skills and understanding they have gained.

Group leaders

Your teachers will be Hannah Clifford and Niamh McAuliffe. We have worked together for many years both within the NHS and privately as Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapists. As individuals we were both drawn to mindfulness over a decade ago and we share a dedication to daily personal practice as well as to our teaching. We trained as MBCT teachers together through the Sussex Mindfulness Centre and have been co-facilitating groups ever since. We are accredited MBCT teachers and follow the British Association of Mindfulness Based Approaches (BAMBA) good practice guidelines. We share a commitment to nurturing an environment for participants where people will feel safe and supported in their emerging mindfulness practice.
