Since qualifying as a counsellor in 2013 I have been working in private practice and treatment centres and rehabilitation centres in the UK and Spain, helping people recover from addictions, substance abuse, alcoholism, trauma, stress and burnout, co-dependency and relationship problems and mental health problems including anxiety and depression. I do this by providing group work and 1-2-1 therapy for individuals, couples and families in need of therapeutic intervention, support and aftercare. Prior to this for nearly two decades, I worked with young people that are experiencing difficulties and challenges in their adolescence. This may be due to bullying or online bullying and social media issues, mental health and emotional well-being difficulties, behaviour problems, family and relationship/friendship issues, peer pressure and problems at school or college. Whatever the challenge, I can offer a safe place to discuss, listen and help you find a way forward.

I work with a diverse range of clients, long and short-term; including people in recovery from alcoholism and other addictions, co-dependency and relationship problems, mental health and emotional well-being issues often originating from unresolved childhood experiences now resulting in unhealthy behaviours and patterns that are painful, destructive and impacting the present.

I am familiar with and use the 12-steps, SMART Recovery and relapse prevention when working with addiction(s) and co-dependency, having spent many years working with addicts and alcoholics in drug and alcohol services, rehabs and treatment facilities. I also work with couples that may be experiencing difficulties in their relationship, whether this is to do with an addiction in the family, co-dependency, dysfunctions in the family or other relationship issues. Many couples struggle and go around in circles, stuck in unhealthy patterns of relating and behaving. Small changes and new ways of understanding your problems, patterns and behaviours can make a significant shift in a couple’s relationship.

At the first meeting we will discuss what has led you to seek support and how counselling might benefit you, what your goals are and together we will put a treatment plan in place. Some clients chose a brief solution-focused approach of up to 6 sessions which can include setting goals and introducing strategies to address their problems; others prefer to continue on a long-term basis. I work in a way that is transparent and do not believe that counselling is about ‘fixing’ something; rather that it is a collaborative process to together explore and find a way forward. The transformative power lies in the therapeutic relationship.

The areas I work with include:
Addictions (substance abuse and alcoholism, internet, social media, gambling, shopping, sex, relationships, work).
Co-dependency and relationship difficulties
Stress, anxiety, depression and general
Mental health and well being
Anger management
Abuse (sexual, emotional, physical, spiritual)
Trauma and dissociation

I see clients online as well as in my consulting rooms in East Dulwich.
