I am a Senior Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), working with adults in the NHS and private practice. I have extensive experience working with people with common mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression, as well as stress management, relationship difficulties and perinatal issues. My specialist skills are in the areas of clinical health psychology (including chronic fatigue syndrome, pain, gastroenterological and rheumatological problems), and neurodevelopmental conditions (including autism and ADHD).
My approach is to work collaboratively with you to develop a shared understanding of your strengths and difficulties so that we can start to make meaningful changes in your life. I work from a person-centred perspective which means that I will seek to understand your individual needs and develop a treatment plan that best suits you. I am a warm and empathic person and will provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space for therapy.
Evidence based interventions including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Systemic Therapy underpin my practice. I also draw from my experience as a qualified yoga instructor where appropriate. This allows me to work with people as whole, including their mind and body, whilst taking into account important social factors.
In terms of my qualifications, I obtained a first-class honours degree in Psychology from University College Dublin. I have a professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College, London. Additionally, before becoming a clinician, I completed a PhD in Clinical Neuroscience at Trinity College Dublin.
In addition to my clinical work I have experience in research and education. I have taught and provided supervision to aspiring psychologists and other processionals. I am a published researcher and have presented my research findings internationally.
