***Dr Newman will be taking on new clients in Spring 2024***

I am a clinical psychologist. My experience includes clinical work in the NHS mental health services since 2014, and completed my doctoral training in clinical psychology in 2018. I work mostly with children, young people and families. My specialist experience is in working with people with learning disabilities and their carers.

In my work, I consider that the person or family will already have many strengths, skills and ideas that can help address the difficulties or concerns in their lives. I offer a therapeutic relationship and a non-judgemental thinking space. Bringing ideas from my clinical psychology training that seem most useful to the person or family’s context. Through talking, playing, drawing and experimenting together, we can come to a shared understanding of the difficulties. We can also explore different perspectives and ideas for change.

I have supported adults, children, young people and families to make meaningful change in the context of a range of difficulties including Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Depression, Low Mood, Low Self-Esteem,  Attachment-based/Relationship Difficulties, School Refusal, Behavioural Difficulties, Separation Anxiety, Trauma, Self-harm and Suicidal Ideation.

I have a broad-based clinical training, enabling me to work integratively and to draw on a range of clinical approaches to mental health and wellbeing. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT, Mindfulness-Based Therapies, Systemic and Family Therapies, Narrative Therapy, and Psychodynamic and Play-Based approaches. I have a Postgraduate Certificate in ‘Low Intensity’ Cognitive Behavioural Interventions.

My experience also includes providing parent-focused or carer-focused interventions. I have specific training in Personalised Individual Parent Training PIPT. This intervention offers practical skills and ideas to support parents to effectively address challenging behaviour, and to strengthen their relationship with their child.

I see clients online as well as in East Dulwich consulting rooms.
