Dr Isabelle Lensvelt , clinical psychologist Headshot

I am an HCPC-registered  clinical psychologist with over 10 years experience of working in different mental health settings, including NHS services, prisons and private hospitals. I believe passionately in the reparative power of relationships and work collaboratively with clients to support their innate capacity for healing and growth. Empathy, authenticity and playfulness underpin my approach to therapy.

I take the view that people are naturally resilient and adaptable. Rather than being an individual problem or deficit, I believe that psychological distress arises out of experiences, relationships or environments which interrupt or overwhelm our natural resilience. Because of this, I seek to bring to light the historical and current social, environmental and individual factors which influence my clients’ lives. Through this, we can create a shared understanding of what has brought you to therapy, what is keeping you stuck, and build on the strengths and resources you already have to make meaningful changes.

I specialise in providing individual therapy, attachment-informed parenting support, or parent-child therapy for children and adults who have experienced losses, disruptions or trauma in their relationships, and who may as a result struggle with trusting other people, fears of abandonment or high levels of shame (a view of the self as bad). While I draw on and integrate a number of therapies, my main therapeutic approaches are EMDR, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy and parenting interventions. I have worked with children and adults from a wide range of backgrounds with difficulties including: PTSD, attachment difficulties (e.g. difficulties with parent-child bonding, struggling to build and/or maintain relationships); anxiety and worry; low self-esteem; depression and low mood.
